There are many reasons to take drumming lessons, and your motivations may change over time, as you develop as a drummer and musician. Whatever your reasons for learning to play drum kit, a good tutor will make learning enjoyable and relevant, keeping you motivated while you fulfill your musical ambitions, and then exceed them!
If you are just starting out, drum lessons offer a vital first step towards playing grooves, adding fills, and jamming along to your favourite tunes. Regular drumming tuition will help you progress to a level where you can take drum grades or join a band. More information for beginner drummers is available here and in the Rhythm Section.
For more advanced drummers, a good teacher will help you refine your established drumming skills, improving technique and mechanics, speed and consistency. By taking regular drum lessons, you can be sure to get the most out of your practice time, while improving your knowledge of musical styles and theory.
If you already play Drum Kit then you might already have a direction or style of music that you wish to improve. If you have a particular skill or technique which you would like to develop, we can design a specific course of bespoke lessons which will target the aspects of drumming which are most important to you.

Advice for New Drummers
Do I need to buy a drum kit first?
No! If you're just starting out, you don't need to spend anything at all. Even your first lesson is free! If you wish to continue drumming after your free trial lesson, I recommend that you buy a pair of quality drum sticks. You might also consider investing in a practice pad and metronome (what are these?).
Recommended Lesson Durations
Drumming is your hobby, and to keep it fun you should decide your own level of commitment. However, if you're serious about improving as a drummer, regular lessons and regular practice are essential. For adults, I recommend weekly lessons of one hour in length, supported by short, daily practice sessions at home. If this is not possible, I suggest shorter weekly lessons (i.e. 45 minutes) with regular practice alone. Fortnightly lessons are also available.
What shall I do now?
If you're serious about learning to play the drums, the first step is to contact me and arrange your free trial drum lesson. After the trial lesson, you should have a good feel for how fun playing drums can be, and satisfying it is to play your first beat!
If, after the trial lesson, you'd like to continue playing and learning drums, I recommend booking a course of four sessions. Find out about drum lesson discounts. At the end of your short course, you will be playing along to various songs and will have an idea of what it's like to be a drummer. I'm sure you'll be just as hooked as I was!
